In analyzing this year’s season opener between the Packers and Seahawks it’s almost impossible not to think back to Week 3 of 2012 – when these two teams last squared off – ending with one of the more controversial calls in NFL history. Though there may still exist some bad blood between Mike McCarthy and Pete Carroll’s squads, both teams have experienced significant changes in face over two short years – most notably at the skill positions. In fact, neither player that was involved with the infamous ‘Fail Mary’ – Golden Tate and M.D. Jennings – is with their respective…

2014 Season Predictions

3 years ago     84 Views     Leave your thoughts

The only prediction bolder than picking the Packers to come away with a win on the road against the reigning Super Bowl champions is forecasting a 12-win season for a team that has lost three players for the year before the regular season is even underway. Starting the season thin on both lines isn't usually the makeup of a contending club in the NFL. Packers training camp saw its regular share of injuries and UDFA surprises, all of which have given way to an interesting round of final cuts. The Packers will be without nose tackle B.J. Raji, offensive tackle Don Barclay and rookie receiver Jared Abbrederis for the entire season and will be missing tight end Brandon Bostick and center J.C. Tretter for multiple weeks. It's certainly possible that GM Ted Thompson makes an unexpected move or two before next Thursday's season opener in Seattle. One such move could be the addition of a veteran O-lineman, which I've incorporated into my 53-man roster…

In the most important game of the preseason, the scoreboard indicated a job well done by Mike McCarthy’s crew. Despite lining up against one of the league least-talented clubs, the Packers flashed several undeniable positives, including the mere existence of a pass rush. And still, some sloppiness was present in penalties, dropped passes and a muffed punt. The Packers didn’t exactly escape the injury bug, with Brad Jones, B.J. Raji and Jamari Lattimore leaving the game early. On defense, Davon House continued to show why the coaching staff has been so keen to insert him in a variety of packages.…

Losing Streak on Defensive Draft Selections Sends Mixed Messages

  3 years ago     125 Views     5 Comments

The trade of Jerel Worthy to the Patriots last week triggered widespread realization amongst fans that the Packers 2012 draft class hasn’t amounted to much. Outside of proven contributors Casey Hayward and Mike Daniels, the only remaining draft pick of the eight original selections is injury-plagued Nick Perry, who now faces split playing time with pro bowl pass rusher, Julius Peppers. Not such a good sign for one of the NFL’s most draft-dependent clubs. No, the 2012 draft won’t go down as one of GM Ted Thompson’s best – and this may have something to do with the seeming abandonment…
