Breaking Down Week 12 vs. the Vikings

Recent visits to Minneapolis have been all about trying to contain Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. And if Peterson was actually active this week, one could be sure that he would be the center of Dom Capers and the 29th-ranked run defense’s game plan. But with Peterson still suspended, the Packers face a considerably weaker Vikings offense, led by rookies Teddy Bridgewater and Jerick McKinnon. While the Vikings are missing Peterson, the Packer defense gets a slightly tougher test than their October meeting with Minnesota, where they sacked Christian Ponder six times and picked him off twice. But like Ponder,…

The Packers’ dismantling of Chicago in Week 10 may have been their most impressive victory of the season but the blowout of Philadelphia in Week 11 was most certainly the most impressive versus a quality team. With the win, the Packers now own an important tie-breaker over the Eagles in the NFC playoff race, which figures to see at least one good team eliminated from the postseason at the end of December. The offense stole the spotlight against the Eagles as Aaron Rodgers tossed three more touchdowns on 341 passing yards. However, the defense and special teams contributed 21 of…

Coming off of one of their most impressive wins of the season, the Packers host Eagles in a game with big-time playoff implications. Having only beaten one team with a record over .500 this season, we can be sure that Mike McCarthy and the Packers are eager to strengthen their resume at home versus one of the NFC’s most talented teams on paper. On Sunday night, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers routed their division rivals in prime time, delivering one of the most lopsided defeats in the two teams’ rivalry and effectively shutting the door on Chicago’s playoff hopes. Completing their most dominant sweep of the Bears under Mike McCarthy was undoubtedly a sweet feeling for the Packers. But the ‘moral victory’ of fundamentally sound football in all facets of the game was what reinforced this team’s status as a contender in the NFC. (more…)

Since the Packers and Bears last met in Week 4, the two teams have trended in dramatically different directions – the Bears dropped three of their next four while the Packers experienced defeat just once. The Bears stole a win from the Packers in last year’s meeting at Lambeau Field when both teams were missing their starting quarterbacks for three-plus quarters. Chicago’s 2013 victory over Green Bay was their first since Week 3 of 2010, when Jay Cutler recorded his only career win over the Packers to-date. Nursing a hamstring injury over the bye week, Aaron Rodgers is expected to…
