Oh yeah… That’s pretty much every year, and Packer Nation loves it. Jay Cutler is definitely one of the top ten defensive players for the Packers.
Well, folks. Meet the new Jay Cutler, Blake Bortles.
The quarterback position is, without a doubt, the most critical of all offensive positions. Teams that have an outstanding one (*cough* Aaron Rodgers) are regulars in the playoffs. And, teams that don’t (*cough* Jay Cutler) rarely smell the post season.
There are some teams out there who are desperately looking for a QB that’s at least serviceable. Others have found a QB that’s serviceable but not a top tier, franchise QB and certainly not an elite QB. I would place Blake Bortles in this category. He’s a good enough quarterback to manage a team but not the type that defenses should fear…
At least not yet.
Blake is young and could develop nicely, but he hasn’t shown any of that to this point.
Last season he led the league in interceptions with 18 and was only able to complete 58.6% of his passes. The year before that he tossed 17 INTs and only had a completion percentage of 58.9%.
The Jags, overall, are a much improved team. This is why I think the Packers will have to bring their A-game to Jacksonville. But, Bortles will make mistakes (including a couple INTs against the Pack). This is why I think the Packers will walk away from this game with a solid win.
