Ty Montgomery was my favorite pick of this year's draft. In the third round at number 94 the Packers have what I view as the answer to endangering veterans on kick returns. While he still has a LOT to prove as an NFL player, Sam Seale, one of the Packers scouts, has called him "a bigger Randall Cobb". This is high praise and from what I have seen, not unwarranted though it remains to be seen how Montgomery develops at the next level, where the windows are smaller, the angles are tighter, and daylight is at a prison-population premium.  (more…)

Will the Special Teams Finally be Special?

The Packers special teams was atrocious last season with botched onside kicks, poor kickoff returns etc., McCarthy said the ST's would be better this year and it started with firing coach Shawn Slocum and promoting his assistant Ron Zook. Then McCarthy gave up his play calling duties so he could focus on all aspects of the team, now he will be in every meeting when it comes to defense/offense/special teams and this alone could make this team get over the small hump that's been holding them back from going to the big dance, they let go of some key players…

At pick number 30 in this year's draft, the Packers picked a safety that they believe can be a pro cornerback in Damarious Randall. With an interception returned for touchdown in each of his last two seasons, the 5'11" 196 pound safety would have also been the best cornerback on the Sun Devil's team but played safety because of team need. Sound familiar Packernation? A certain Clay Matthews was the best OLB on a certain team but played the ILB position because he was the best player his team had at that position. Packers Add Undrafted Free Agents

The end of the draft signals the beginning of the undrafted free-agent signing frenzy. The Packers added sixteen to the roster. After a defense heavy draft, the undrafted rookies are almost all offensive players. The additions include another handful of wide receivers, which should make Aaron Rodgers very happy. Competition will be fierce for these guys to find a roster spot on a loaded team but who knows, maybe the next Sam Shields is in the mix. (more…)
