Top Priority in the 2017 Draft

The Packers need a good draft to get the team over the hump that has in recent years become the NFC Championship. The defense is the consensus top priority though some wouldn't mind a running back in the first round. Of course, the Packers pick best player available and if a running back is it, that would fit Ted Thompson's self-stated philosophy while many would argue that he does not pick running backs in the first round. Ranking the Top 5 Packers Draft Needs

The Packers will enter the 2017 draft with holes to fill...particularly on defense. Ranked 22nd in total defense, multitudes of injury, in particular to Sam Shields, forced young cornerbacks (themselves injured often) into major roles in short order. With the exit of Julius Peppers and Datone Jones, second year LB Kyler Fackrell and recently signed Jayrone Elliot will presumably be called upon earlier and more often. I've not written a post for a while but feel the need to vent, All the chatter about Thompson dabbling in free agency has me thinking could this be the year? Rodgers came out and kind of put the head honchos on the spot by hinting it's time to get aggressive with some top help. The release of Shields and Starks opens up a big chunk of cap space. Matthews could restructure his contract this year as well so Ted could get crazy along with other teams when free agency starts instead of waiting for all the high priced players…
