CLICK to PICK: Inside Linebacker

eric kendricksEarly this offseason, Packernation’s attention was narrowly focused on the inside linebackers coming out in the draft. Later on, Packernation began to question whether any of the ILB prospects was worth a first round pick. Today we revisit the question of inside linebacker, a definite need in the draft as depth is a must not just in case of injury at this position, but also because we will inevitably be very young and inexperienced at the position. Make no mistake, opposing offensive coordinators are going to be testing the inside of the Packers’ defense this coming season to see if we have found an answer.

With nine picks (3 in round 6) of this year’s draft, it is still likely that the Packers will pick up an benardrick mckinney 2inside linebacker but who do you think is first-round worthy? Would you pick ILB in round one only if Benardrick McKinney was available? Do you think there are other picks worthy of number 30 overall that could immediately contribute to the Packers’ defense?

Here are Mike Mayock’s top five linebackers in this year’s draft, who would you choose if available in the first round (you can choose more than one)?

Kendrick is #1 but he will be gone before they pick at 30 so if a top corner like Peters,Johnson,Collins or Jones are not there I see them trading down to a mid 2nd round team and picking up a corner like Eric Rowe or D’Joun Smith then taking a ILB like Perryman or McKinney with their second pick in the second round.

I don’t believe Kendricks has to upside (potential to improve)that Anthony has. Besides, Kendricks reminds me of another A.J. Hawk which we don’t need again.
