What to Watch for Tonight
Written by John Rehor Thursday, 02 September 2010 15:49
The Packers preseason finale vs. the Chiefs is tonight. For 22 players, it will be (potentially) the final time they put on a football uniform, as cut day is Saturday to get to the 53 man roster. Tonight is the final showcase for so many players, their final attempt to keep their football careers going. With that said, here are a few things that I will be watching tonight as I attempt to keep my interest for 50+ minutes of second and third team players.
- Does Graham Harrell do enough to earn a Practice Squad spot, or will he fizzle out as so many heralded college QBs do when they reach the NFL?
- Which of the fullbacks flashes the most? And is this game a potential trade showcase for one of them?
- The Packers have a plethora of talent at Tight End. Which one of them has reached the end of the road, and could one of them be traded after tonight?
- Is tonight Jason Chery’s one and only time to earn an NFL spot? He has a golden opportunity to earn a spot.
- Is tonight the last time the “B Brothers”- Breno Giacomini and Allen Barbre suit up in the green and gold? Rumor has it Breno is wanted by other teams (http://bit.ly/dmY9W5)
- Does Justin Harrell do enough tonight to stay on the roster, or has the much maligned defensive linemen reached the end of the line?
- Can Frank Zombo do enough to potentially earn a starting spot? Could he overtake Brad Jones?
- Can Brandon Underwood, Pat Lee, Sam Shields, and anyone else they want to place in the Nickel Back spot give Packer fans any sort of confidence coming out of the Chiefs game? Not very inspiring thus far through preseason.
- Will Morgan Burnett continue to grow as a rookie starting Strong Safety?
- Who will win the punting battle-Chris Bryan or Tim Masthay? It’s decided tonight.
Tonight is the end of the beginning-the final preseason game and so many fans (and bloggers) are thankful that the regular season is one day closer. By the end of the day Saturday, our 2010 Green Bay Packers roster will be complete. Tonight is the end of the dream for the 22 who won’t make the Packers roster. Enjoy tonight-it all starts to count for real in 10 days.

Sounds like Chery is having trouble in the return game in practice despite his return for a TD against the Colts. I'm not sure the few returns he gets tonight will be enough to convince the coaches to keep him.
I think the Packer brass is going to keep Lee because he's a known quantity and Quarless because he's got the talent to be a big part of this team in the future. Crabtree is probably gone.
I almost think they'll have to keep Harrell if he'd healthy enough to get on the field. We don't have a lot of depth at DL and much of it is rookies.
Zombo's been fun to watch. He's got a job. Taking over for Brad?...
