Kenny ClarkBefore this year’s draft, I said if we pick all OL, DL and LB’s I would be happy. Contrary to some who rail against this year’s draft, I loved it. The loss of BJ Raji was accounted for in the first round and Kenny Clark will get some serious rotational time with the loss of Pennel for four games. Plus, Clark will figure heavily into our five game pre-season. On offense, the Packers got not just one but two big guys that could be excellent players for a long time. Spriggs was my favorite pick of this year’s draft but Kyle Murphy out of Stanford is one I am keeping my eye on as a possible steal in the sixth. Picking the way they did, the Packers tapped the vein of talent in this year’s draft which was clearly the bigs. This draft could be one that pays off for years to come. We shall see and they rooks still have a lot to prove but I, for one am excited.

I love the tandem of linebackers we picked up for different reasons. Kyler Fackrell is the soft-spoken one and I am looking to see him do his talking on the field. Martinez is the active leader that I think could steal some playing time in the middle his rookie year. Again, the extra pre-season game is going to give these kids some serious reps as McCarthy seeks to protect the vets and go into week one of a grueling schedule with fresh first-teamers.

Finally, the Packers did pick a speed-burner this year in Trevor Davis, the wide receiver out of California. Trevor has a tough row to hoe with the Packers’ wide receiver depth but the kid has already raised some eyebrows. Trevor is my sleeper to be a star down the road as I have yet to be convinced that Jeff Janis and Abby are going to truly come into their own. I have been a Ty Montgomery fan since the beginning and I want Janis and Abby to do well, but I think Davis will have a shot down the road. At any rate, I love that the Ted Thompson is stocking the wide receiver group after what happened last year.

Well, these are my thoughts as the rookie orientation passes into the rear-view and the Packers new rookies look to build their bodies and knowledge for OTA’s and training camp. What are your thoughts post rookie orientation? Let us know here or back on the Facebook Fanpage.
