Well day one of the 2014 draft is in the books, it was a very exciting round indeed! From the beginning, gbhaPackers fans knew that we would be right on the edge of picking up a top player at their position, and that is exactly what we saw yesterday. When Calvin Pryor was taken by the Jets at pick 18, pressure in the veins of those of us who bleed Green and Gold went critical…

Most Dangerous Substance on Earth - Packer Offense

Then the Dolphins and the Saints (through trade) made their picks and Ha Ha was still on the board! But @packernation could not yet rejoice because Ted Thompson had the final say and there was no way of knowing for sure that even though Packers fans had been clamoring for a safety for months…he was Ted’s best player available.

And then…”With the twenty-first pick in the two-thousand fourteen draft…the Green Bay Packers select Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.” Packernation went wild! For my part…I jumped up and shouted out loud to hear that name when it seemed so unlikely and there were so few other players that I really liked on the board. Comments on the fanpage were nothing short of euphoric…with a few exceptions. In fact, one comment was simply “bust”. That got me to thinking…maybe people need a chance to make their opinions known…anonymously. I have some reservations about certain parts of Clinton-Dix’s play, and I listed them in his weaknesses here. But for me, having the guy there at pick 21 was an unexpected surprise. But what do you think? Grade the pick here, where no one can gripe if you don’t think he’s the next Nick Collins:

But it’s not over yet Packernation! In fact, in my opinion, the best is yet to come! Day Two is upon us and the depth of this draft, coupled with TT’s extra pick in round 3 make me very excited for what Friday will bring. With our biggest need filled with the first pick, and so many options still on the board, today could be EPIC!

Will we find someone to shore up the center position vacated by Dietrich-Smith? Will we find a replacement for Jermichael Finley? Will we add a DT or get an inside linebacker? Oh yeah, and there are some good wide receivers still out there. It just gets better…I think there is a good chance the Packers fill the TE need on Friday, but what do you think?

But it wasn’t so long ago that a lot of Packers fans thought Green Bay might take a defensive tackle in the first round. With the re-signing of BJ Raji, that scenario did not play out but guess what…there are some first round graded DT’s still available. I bet some of these names ring a bell.

After an exciting and satisfying first round, I can’t wait to see what new blood the Packers get with picks 53, 85, and 98. It’s Friday and the draft is here, it’s not over yet but we have to wait until tonight to see. But when the dust settles, I fully expect to see some playmakers in the lineup. So until tonight…GO PACK!!!

I think several of the mentioned players will perform well, but I had to go with “other”. Watch for Joe Thomas to make the most of his limited snaps at ILB. 🙂

I could only vote for one rookie to jump out so I went with Bradford I believe this young man is the future QB nightmare for this team but I also think Janis is going to show case his talents very well in these pre-season game to solidify a spot on the 53.
