It’s certainly possible that GM Ted Thompson makes an unexpected move or two before next Thursday’s season opener in Seattle. One such move could be the addition of a veteran O-lineman, which I’ve incorporated into my 53-man roster predictions below. Or, Ted could entertain the trade of outside linebacker Nick Perry, whose playing time should be suppressed by free agent acquisition Julius Peppers.
It’s difficult to picture Thompson parting ways with both a third-round and fourth-round draft pick from this past April but Khyri Thornton and Carl Bradford simply didn’t show enough during training camp (though some would argue that the coaching staff waited too long to give Bradford reps at inside linebacker, which could actually be his natural position). I expect other surprising cuts to include Matt Flynn and Andrew Quarless.
The practice squad is sure to include at least one tight end between Jake Stoneburner and Justin Perillo. Cornerback Demetri Goodson is also a prime candidate to be stashed on the newly-expanded practice squad. Other names that could find their way onto this list include: Kevin Dorsey, LaDarius Perkins, Jordan McCray and Tanner Miller.
