Aaron Rodgers NFC Championship LossTomorrow night’s game is one that a lot of Packers players are looking forward to. For young players trying to cement a spot on the team, this game is critical and their opportunities will abound. For veteran starters looking to fine-tune and tweak their game, the reps will be more limited but still important to hit the ground running come September 13th. One veteran starter in partcular has been the subject of a lot of speculation as to whether or not he will play at all.

Aaron Rodgers certainly doesn’t need to work on his game right now. He is as good as it gets and will have plenty of time to get in sync with receivers. The offense around Rodgers is the same as it was last year so limiting the reps of the league MVP stands to reason…why risk him? Remember just last season when Aaron tweaked his calf, he was limited in how he could play the game. Every time Rodgers is on the field, he is at risk, which is why top shelf quarterbacks usually only get significant playing time in the third preseason game.

Most Dangerous Substance on Earth - Packer Offense

However, I believe that Rogers will not only play, but will play more this preseason than he has in the past. Mike McCarthy has made it clear that he wants to start fast this year and I think this will include playing Rodgers more in the preseason so that he is fully vested by the time the season begins. This will also give Rodgers more time with young receivers like Jeff Janis and Ty Montgomery who have shown promise so far in camp. Of course Tolzien and the other qbs will get plenty of time too but it just seems to me that the coaching staff is committed to getting as many of our best players on the field as much as possible. They are doing that on special teams and I think we will see a little more of Rodgers too.

And with that comes risk. So what would you do if you were Mike McCarthy? Play Rodgers tomorrow night or just let him sit and teach and observe? Let us know what you think in the comments section below or back on the Facebook Fanpage.
