A.M. Quickslant: New “Wrinkles” + Same Chemistry = Better Offense

We've been asking Packernation about NFC North division rivals this week. One of the most important reasons that teams try to institute new "wrinkles" into their offense is to try to throw their division rivals off the scent. There is a certain familiarity that comes from meeting a team twice each year and using different players in different ways helps nullify the advantage that such familiarity may give a defense. Plays that have not seen the field cannot show up as tendencies on the film. (more…)

Making the Special Teams Special: Part 1 Arrow Pointing UP

  2 years ago     108 Views     2 Comments

At the end of last season, there was a lot of talk of how the Packers special teams let us down. There was then a lot of action on the part of the Packers staff in letting Shawn Slocum go, making sure the head coach was in on the special teams meetings, and drafting versatile players who are likely to contribute to that group. Sometimes we even want one of these long shots to win out over a vet...for example a Carl Bradford (excited to see if Bradford makes a leap this year) over a Brad Jones last season. But this year, there is a guy that I really want to see make the team does not come from the draft class but is un-drafted North Dakota State rookie running back John Crockett. (more…)

UDFA First Take: Javess Blue, WR – Kentucky

  2 years ago     138 Views     2 Comments

Javess Blue, the wide receiver out of Kentucky comes in at 6' and 188 lbs., posted a 4.56-40 yard dash, has a 33" vertical, 10'1" broad jump, but only had 29 catches for 525 yds and 5 TD's. While he does not look like much he seems to have the speed and hands to make it as a slot receiver, but what I like about his video is when he said he was a corner before changing positions and when he was he was good at it, Hmmm does Mike have ideas running through his head? Check out the video…
