Availability of Top Cornerbacks a Key Factor on Sunday Night

Both the Packers and Vikings came away with ugly wins in Week 1, Minnesota’s slightly more justified than Green Bay’s. But instead of downplaying the magnitude of this Sunday’s primetime matchup, much of the conversation this week has revolved around injuries, starting with the Vikings’ quarterback situation and followed by the availability of both teams’ top cornerbacks. The potential absence of Xavier Rhodes at cornerback would leave Minnesota exposed in its secondary, with second-year cornerback Trae Waynes likely getting the start opposite veteran cornerback Terrence Newman. Should this happen, expect Aaron Rodgers to take every advantage of one-on-one matchups on…

Sam Shields Key Contribution in 2016

One of the things that I'll be watching in 2016 really has nothing to do with the strategy or mechanics of football. R&R: Green Bay Packers Versus Chicago Bears

Rants This was the first time in a long time that I watched a Packers versus Bears game and got a little nervous. The defense was horrible... they could not stop the run and penalties were coming in bunches. Granted, I think the ref's were pro Bears but most of the calls were legit. Bottom line - if they don't clean it up they will not stand a chance with a better team which they face next week! I like Sam Shields but he could not have had a worse game he was either falling down or missing tackles or…

The general sentiment is that if a player wasn't good enough to be drafted by an NFL team he isn't good enough to play in the NFL. And, generally speaking, that's true. However, every once in a while an Undrafted Free Agent really shines. When they join the Packers, they shine more frequently than they do on any other team. (more…)

UnPACK the Play: Morgan Burnett INT Return

  3 years ago     222 Views     1 Comment

There has been a lot of negative talk about the defense in the Atlanta game. But here's a play that needs to be remembered. It reminded me of Nick Collins' INT return in SB XLV. It wasn't returned for a touchdown but a lot of good things happened during this play. Of course, the best thing was the interception itself. The Packers had great coverage and Matt Ryan had to hold the ball too long until Nick Perry got free up the middle. Feeling the pressure, Ryan made the decision to force the ball rather than take a sack. The…
