Unsung Heroes of the Pre-season: Part 1

Every pre-season has its share of unsung heroes and this preseason is no different. Rookies that perform, returning players that take the next step, and positional players that nobody talks about but that have an influence on the outcome of the game. Today’s unsung hero belongs on the unit that I am most excited about of any this off-season. No, it is not the wide receiver corps, no it is not the linebacker group. It is the offensive line.

J.C. Tretter has played some outstanding football. This week, the announcement came down that he will be the starter. Of course, all that can change and we know the Linsley has been battling back from injury. The only problem I have with the announcement is I am one of those guys who believes you shouldn’t lose your job due to injury. But when your center goes down…or is slow in returning and seems to not be entirely himself, the team has to move forward.

For Tretter…moving forward has taken a loooong time. But J.C. has been patient, been a pro, and now he is a starter for the Green Bay Packers. Tretter played well last season in the Washington game and has done everything the team has asked of him ever since. Then in this year’s pre-season, he has done a great job snapping the ball to quarterbacks not named Aaron Rodgers. He has seemed to fit in seemlessly with Sitton and Lang and the chemistry has been great through the first couple pre-season games.

This upcoming game against the 49’ers will show if Tretter is ready to roll come September 11, I think he will and it is about time that he gets some cred as an unsung hero of this year’s training camp.

Give J.C. a shout-out in the comments below or back on the Facebook Fanpage.
