Packernation is currently waiting with bated breath to see if the word on Jordy Nelson’s injury is true. Ian Rapoport is the one reporting at the time of this writing so there is a good chance that one of the worst nightmares Packernation could conceive of has just come true.
But all is not lost. The Packers have fought through injury before and been able to get the job done. Fortunately, the Green Bay Packers have one of the deepest wide receiver corps in the NFL and it is time for the young guys to step up.
The importance of guys like Jeff Janis, Myles White, and Ty Montgomery has just been bumped up a level. Ted Thompson’s strategy of continually bringing in young talent on offense will also be an important part of the success of the 2015 season if the reports are true.
The Packers will need to fast-track Janis or one of the other “bubble” receivers and brief Davante Adams on his new position as not just one of the second year players, but perhaps as a starter by default.
This news is deflating for a team and a fan-base that was looking for big things this year. But all is not lost, first of all…we don’t have official news yet. Secondly, the depth of the wide receiver corps will help alleviate the loss that a great player like Jordy Nelson would be to this team.
The Packers are not a team to shy away from a challenge. We need to wish Jordy well, embrace the challenge, and move forward toward the season.
Go Pack!
