Poetry-Packers Style

On the eve of preseason game one of the 2010 season, the beginning of analysis has merely begun. The draft, OTAs, mini camp, and the first 2 weeks of Training Camp are simply the prelude to the real fun, the NFL season. The preseason is the point where great stories are made (early success of Sam Shields) and players’ careers hinge on every play on the field (Jarrett Bush, are you listening?).
There is little more that can be said about preseason number one tonight. It is a time to await the glorious return of football to Lambeau Field and start the 91st season of Packers football. With that being said, I figured it was time to express some thoughts via poetry about the first preseason game and the official start of the Packers season. There will be no iambic pentameter, Haiku, or Shakespearean influences here; just some thoughts about the 2010 Packers.
The day we all wait for is finally here
The return of football is today
The Packers will take the field (finally)
And football they will play
The Browns from Cleveland are in town
To take on the Green and Gold
Lambeau Field will be rockin’ tonight
‘Cuz every ticket was sold
The fans will be decked out in jerseys, shirts, and shorts
All cheering for the Pack
The Brownies better watchout
The Packers don’t ever, ever slack
Rodgers will throw, and throw, and throw
His passing is divine
Ryan Grant will run and run and run
Hopefully not into the line
Driver and Jennings are a fierce combo
Many TD’s they will catch we hope
Throw Finley in the mix with 8-10 of his own
This offense ain’t no joke
Jones versus Nelson, the great debate
Who will be number three?
At this point Nelson has the upper hand
But Jones won’t give it up for free
The offensive line was in question last year
For half a season gave fans the frights
PLEASE do us a favor this year?
Keep Rodgers upright.
The defense was stout last year
Wound up number two
Something tells me Barnett and Co.
Won’t let that slip, even a few
Raji, Pickett, and Jenkins across the front
That’s a big, big line
To end up number one in total defense
Would be absolutely divine
So what if A.J. Hawk isn’t a superstar?
He really isn’t that poor
Let’s get through this season with him as a starter
Before we show him the door
Desmond Bishop is a beast
Especially on Twitter
I’m ready to give him more playing time
As long as he has learned to cover
Nick Barnett and Brandon Chillar
Make up the rest of the corps
They are ready to knock Adrian Peterson
Right into the floor
Charles Woodson is the MAN
Does nothing but strike fear
Sure he was DPOY last season
He’d trade a hundred of those for a Super Bowl ring
Al Harris has inspired all offseason
With the rehab of his knee
Keep fighting back Al, we need you
You are a veteran leader of this team
Safety is set with two time Pro Bowler
Nick Collins at the Free
Strong is manned by rookie Morgan Burnett
Hmm, wonder if we’ll ever see Bigby
Mason Crosby, oh Mason
Do us a favor this season
Can you control that big leg of yours and actually make field goals?
Don’t think that’s out of reason
I don’t care who punts
Hopefully we won’t have too much
As long as one can actually punt this year
And doesn’t completely suck
Preseason game number one is nothing more
Than the first scheduled game
But 2010 is going to be the year
Lucky number 13 comes home to Green Bay
Comments
Whose team was chomping at the bit
To play in a game
But preseason is lame
And the starters Mikey did sit
Preseason game one is in the books
The Packers got their behinds cooked
Rodgers was hot
Most of the rest were not
McCarthy's got a lot to clean up
So its not a perfect rhyme-you get the point I hope :)
Thanks C.D.
