Brandon Bostick Goes Out With Class

bostick 1As we all have heard by now Brandon Bostick was released by the Packers. He tweeted his thoughts yesterday:

“Thankful To Spend The First 3 Years Of My Career In GB. Unfortunately My Time There Has Ended. I Appreciate The Support From Everyone In GB!”

Bostick was responsible for the botched onside kick at the end of the NFC Championship game. Was his release purely for this reason alone? I for one hope not. If it was a bucket list of reasons then I can agree with this decision. Perhaps it was the way Richard Rodgers came on at the end of the season. And the Packers have other options at TE and a draft still to come. The red-zone offense for this team has been a point of weakness and the tight ends are often used in the red zone as blockers and as receiving threats.

bostick 2So Bostick went out with class, but was his release (and the release of Slocum) a message to the special teams players on this Packers team? Mike McCarthy has made it clear that special teams will be better next year. To that end he will be attending all the meetings and it stands to reason that improvement in special teams play was part of the reason that McCarthy gave up play-calling duties.

So simple question, What is Packer nations thoughts about this release? Leave me a comment in the comments section below and…

Go Pack Go!

I think this is a clear case of McCarthy making him the scapegoat. It starts way before that it lies on McCarthy’s shoulders, it should have never came to an onside kick to start with. They quit playing way to early like they always do. I can’t say it enough, when you get a team down step on their throat. Stop with the prevent to win crap.

Glad he is gone, but the loss wasn’t all on him. Lots of other people played into that loss. Coaches and players. Conservative play calling in 4th quarter and prevent defense. Packer fans were really let down hard by this melt down. Pack should have been in the Super Bowl. But thats football, hope things are better next year. I will always bleed green and gold win or lose. Tim

Very Classy! But that offside kick did not lose the game. Green Bay started losing at the very first drive!!! It’s 4th and 1 and you kick a field goal? Should have gone for it!!! You can’t play conservative against a team like the Seahawks. We should have won that game and been in the Super Bowl!!! We would have beaten New England!!! This was our year and we blew it with bad play calls!!!

McCarthy has a vagina and cant take the blame because of his dickless play calling so lets blame special teams coach and bostick and get ride of them both.McCarthy and Thompson are assholes get ride of them need a coach like Holgram that would take the blame and WOULD GO FOR IT ON FOURTH AND AN INCH.

McCarthy threw Bostick under the bus during his post game press conference. So it’s no wonder he was cut. This is the same coach who didn’t second guess his play calling, which put Bostick in this position. But it’s hard to defend the weak play that Bostick made on that onside kick.

My son and I had a long conversation about Bostick yesterday, which proves that Packers fans have very different opinions about Brandon Bostick. My son thinks they were right to cut him. I don’t agree at all. If my memory is correct, Bostick’s last target went for a 26 (or so) yard screen pass. I don’t believe he was given an opportunity to prove himself again. I think he was the most explosive of our TEs and had beaten out Quarless for the starting job in ’13, before he was injured.

I wish Bostick the best. Just hope it doesn’t come back to bite us if he turns into a beast playing against us.

I agree David I think they should have kept him and coached him better. He was a good player that did not get the chance to excel.

The reason why he wasn’t on the field all season, as the coaches said, was because he was having trouble learning the game. That point was nailed home with him not blocking on the onside kick. I really liked him him as well, but this move was more than likely already going to happen

McCarthy tanked the Saints when he had Aaron Brooks hurt and he wouldn’t let Jake Delong play in one of 6 games to make the playoffs. Saints lost all 6 games.

It doesn’t really matter what the real reason was. Special team players have to be on top of their games when the game is on the line. Bostick proved that he was not up to the challenge. I wish him well – just not with Green Bay.

Bostick did go out with class and I hope the best for him. Unfortunately, because he chose to disregard his clear instructions, the game was lost for all the other players and all of the fans. Life is tough. You have to learn to except the consequences to your actions. I know that if I ever chose to disregard my instructions (I am a nurse) and a patient was injured as a result of my actions, or lack of actions, that I would not only lose my job, but I would probably end up in jail. I hope he is picked up and is given a chance to move past this mistake with another team.

All I know is it takes three areas in the NFL to win a Championship Title. That is Offense, Defense and Special Teams. Luck has nothing to do with it. Do your job. In order to do your job you have to know what you are responsible for. Mr. Bostick job on that particular play was to block so Jordy Nelson could do his job, catch the onside kick. NFL stands for not for long if you make a bonehead play. Special Teams for the Packers needed a lot of attention and that what the Head Coach just did. It was the right move. One of the next right moves is to sign WR Randle Cobb to a long term contract. The “L” in Super Bowl 50 stands for Lambeau and Lombardi. GO PACK GO!!!

Thank you Brandon, and keep your head up. One play doesn’t cancel out all of the great things you’ve done for this team in the past, nor was it the only deciding factor in the Championship game. It could have happened to anyone. Thank you for the last three years, and good luck with your career moving forward.

I with you. I hope there were other reasons other than just the botched receipt of the onside kick in the NFC Championship game. Everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect. And as for you “harry balls”, your language shows just what kind of a moron you are.

The Packers loss was due to a catastropic failure in all aspects of the game during its’ last five minutes (coaching, special teams, defense and offense)! Not one player or coach can be blamed it’s on the entire team. I have never seen such a loss in my entire life as a Packer fan.
