Jared Abbrederis has been cleared to play in the final preseason game of the 2015 season. That’s not a lot of time to show his stuff but he has some things working for him… and some things working against him.
In Jared’s Favor
The receiving corps just lost Jordy Nelson and had a bit of a scare with Cobb. Our depth at wide receiver is looking pretty important. While Abbrederis has not been on the field much, he has a knowledge base that neither Pinkard nor Williams can compete with. Aaron has talked about how impressed he’s been with how fast Jared has absorbed the playbook. Well, the last few weeks and all of last season, he had plenty of time to “absorb” the playbook. There’s no real substitute for actually being on the field, but that’s about as close as you can get to it.
The Packers still haven’t found a go-to return guy. We thought the Pack was bringing in Ty Montgomery to handle those duties, but Ty has looked really indecisive. Abbrederis might be the answer in that department, which would also allow Montgomery to focus on receiving (since he’s suddenly become an important cog in that machine).
Stacked Against Jared
There’s still a lot of question whether the Packers would even keep six wide receivers. Even if he is quickly moved ahead of the two rookies listed above simply because he has a more intimate knowledge of the system, he still might not make the cut. Add to that the fact that, in the current depth chart, Jared is seventh or maybe eighth and the outlook appears bleak for the man.
Two Poll Questions for You
It’s time for you to play two different roles. First, you get to be the Packers’ GM. Then, you’ll shift gears and try to get into the mind of the actual GM.
Injuries may have done him in that’s why he will cut him.
