Packernation POLL: Choose One or the Other and be Counted

Ted ThompsonThere was a lot of talk about how this off-season would be different for the Packers, but so far it is the same old same old…Ted Thompson has managed to keep a few of our own…guys who can’t get any real money elsewhere. While at the same time PackerNation has watched playmaker after playmaker go to other teams, including Trevathan to the Bears, the same Bears who beat the Packers at Lambeau on the night Brett Favre’s jersey was hung up for good.

Listen, I have no problem with managing risk in the NFL. Guys like Greg Hardy come to mind and what a waste of time and money such players can be. But there is a balance…where free agents are brought in who are motivated but motivated by the chance for a Super Bowl…not the chance for a big contract. And while I totally agree that not every year is there a player or two worth shelling out big bucks for who can take the team to the next level…I also have to wonder if long stretches….years…of doing nothing in free agency is the answer.

You don’t want to break the bank…but at the same time…is your money really working for you if it is not on the field sweating and toiling for another championship? We are the most storied franchise in the league, and yet, are there any stories left to tell? Other than another Aaron Rodgers peak season wasted because we just didn’t have enough good players on the field…I don’t know of any other story since 2010.

So here is my question to PackerNation, plain and simple. This is where you get to have your opinion counted and listed to the rest of the world…here and nowhere else: Is Ted Thompson the “maker” or “breaker” of the Packers? Is he the one that manages the salary cap, and drafts and develops players to keep the Packers competitive…give them a chance every year. Or is he the guy that refuses to take the risks necessary to make the Packers the best team in the league, the guy who won’t spend the money it takes to make the Packers the dominant team…resulting in a good enough for the playoffs team that fritters away Aaron Rodgers’ best years.

Tell the world what you think.

he is a breaker. its nice to draft good players but you also need quality players and leadership on the field… he refuses to spend the money on a rush defense…..if a quarter back sits safely in pocket it picks apart a defense and defense wins championships….. also need to give the offense a boost with some help on the line when the player goes down u need another top notch lineman ready to go….there are mjor holes to phil on bothsides of the ball…….defensive lineman for sacks and run stopping ability/ safeties starting and backup…offensive line /TE/ running backs/ we missed alot already alot of quality free agents
coaches and front office to communicate and agree…. if they cant agree someone needs to go.

Danny Trevathan was a huge miss, would’ve been huge in run defense and wanted to come to green bay also need te bennett maybe another whiff and thats just 2 impact players that could have been major help!

We’ve got the best QB ever to play in the NFL. Please dont squander away another season with a Swiss Cheese defense and Aaron running for his life.

I think que aré missing the best years of Aarón. Fiesta they won a sb not with the best defense bit with an awesome offense against the steelers. I think Ted has to believe in the team he is building. Ted has to give The team a chance to be dominant in both sides of the field. Suponer the rookie talent with experienced talent. Like they did with peppers. The packers can be an excellent team if they give the team weapons to do so.

How can you adequately compete in today’s game without using all options available to you? I see what is going on as a 50% effort in acquiring talent for our Packers. If this keeps up. we will watch the Pack slowly settle to mediocrity and be passed by division rivals. Aaron’s career will pass us by without another trip to the big show without adequate weapons or protection. Mark my words!

I am reminded of the late 70’s New York Yankees. Reggie Jackson did not make that team but he added to it and the Yankees won back to back. There were several free agents out there that could have helped. TE or RB but they are gone now. How about a lineman?

Thompsons way puts a huge onus on drafting and coaching. Do have the best coaching staff? Are we the Washington Redskins of the 80’s? They had a great coaching staff and the Hogs!
