Well for everyone (including myself) who thought Sam Shields was in for an extended recovery from a serious
knee injury…apparently we can breathe a sigh of relief now. What doctors thought was an MCL strain is only a bruised bone. Whew!
Shields showed himself to be one our backfield stars once again this season with some late season fireworks that made his loss in the playoff game vs. San Francisco one BIG coulda-woulda-shoulda. That said…some may see him as just the cream of the crap in a backfield that set so low a bar this year. I am disappointed in the DB’s play overall this season but not in the guys themselves. The amount of injuries this year and the particular personnel that were injured put SO much pressure on our team that for me it’s time to forgive and forget and move on…
But that doesn’t mean I won’t be crossing my fingers for a Clinton-Dix or even Ifo Ekpre-Olomu when the Packers pick at number 21 in the upcoming draft. Next season, presumably, we will not have so many injuries (knock on wood) and so we will also have no excuses. The players have to make this team into the winner that Packernation wants it to be.
Stay proud!
