Game three of the preseason looked a lot more like a preseason game…
But, there was one thing I had a heap of fun watching. That was Brett Hundley.Every day I get more impressed with this guy. He’s got the legs to take off and go but he showed in game three that he’s learned a thing or two from Aaron Rodgers about moving around in the pocket while keeping your eyes downfield to spot receivers that are getting free.
Rookie quarterbacks are usually painful to watch. They get happy feet and dance around in the pocket way too much. They dump off passes to their check downs because they’re afraid to make a decision downfield. And, when they do move out of the pocket, it’s usually in a mad scramble downfield.
Early on, it seemed like Brett was going to act like a typical rookie QB. He had one roll out to his left that forced him to roll back to the left. Rather than looking for a receiver, he ran about 20 yards sideways to gain four yards.
But, after that, he really settled in and looked good. He moved out of the pocket when it was necessary and connected with receivers downfield. He made very good decisions and had a chance to show off his talent. That’s critical for Brett because it’s still up in the air whether the Packers will be keeping two QBs or three.
Brett just made a strong case for three.
