Though he was not a Green Bay Packer, his voice is memorable to many in Packernation. The family of Frank Gifford issued a statement today:
“It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and friend, Frank Gifford. Frank died suddenly this beautiful Sunday morning of natural causes at his Connecticut home. We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live, and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being. We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time and we thank you for your prayers.”
Frank Gifford played with the New York Giants from 1952 to 1964, with several visits to the Pro-Bowl. In 1956 he was league MVP and led the team to a championship.
After playing, he became a sports commentator, first for CBS and then as a co-host of Monday Night Football from 1971 to 1985.
Packernation understands the history of the NFL and Frank Gifford was a part of that. We give condolences to the family at this time. Please leave yours in the comments below or back on the Facebook fanpage.
Prayers are going out to the Gifford family. He was one of the best in the league. A friend to all players and fans. We Packers fans are honored and glad to have known and seen him play. God Bless you Frank and say hi to Vince for us. Your both on the same playing field again.
Grew up listening to his commentary. He knew the game inside and out. Always was great to hear him calling a game. He will be missed by many.
My deepest condolences and prayers.
My prayers and condolences to Kathie & family.
Deepest sympathy to you, Kathy Lee, Cody and Cassidy.
A prayer for Frank Gifford;
May the happiness and joy that you have brought upon Packer Nation be welcomed into heaven.
You were a blessing from God and as you return to him may he welcome you with open arms.
The joys, the passion for the game, the heart and soul of football itself has lost an icon
And as you reminisce your glory days with Vince Lombardi, Dandy Don Meridith and Howard Cosell
May you find that peace in Heaven for the rest of time.
You will be truly missed.
