Free Agent Time is Here: Packers Nab….

Randall Cobb No Huddle OffenseWe would all like to see the Packers sign Randall Cobb, but we might have to come to the realization that the Packers can’t afford him. From what is being said they offered him the same contract as Nelson 8-9 million a year with 14 million guaranteed and he turned it down. I like Cobb as much as the next person but he is by no means better than Jordy Nelson. Sure, he catches a lot of passes in clutch plays but for the most part it’s because Jordy is taking up the double teams. If Cobb walks to be the #1 receiver for another team his numbers will drop dramatically when he is the one being double teamed.

Now lets take a look at some free agents if Cobb cannot come to a agreement before he hits the open market.

Andre Johnson has asked to be released from the Texans so he will be looking for a new home but he will also be very pricey. Most likely around 10 million year.

The Bears are looking to trade Brandon Marshall but if they don’t get any takers they have said they brandonwill most likely cut him before the cap hit takes effect which would be around 7.5 million with 200k workout bonus so when he hits free agency the Pack could basically pick him up for less than 8 million a year and with Aaron throwing him the ball instead of Cutler the man could easily be a 1000 yard receiver.

Jeremy Maclin could be a nice pick up. He is no Cobb but he is a decent slot guy and for the right price could fit right in to the teams receiving corp.

Wes Welker is getting old but maybe a one year prove it deal at a cheap price could get him in the slot.

Reggie Wayne is another veteran thats getting up there in age but could play anther year on a price is right deal.

You may ask why I even mention the latter with them on their way out of the NFL but if Cobb walks and the Pack can get one more year out of either of these veterans it will give the rookies like Adams,Janis and Abbrederis one more year to take the next step to become solid targets for Rodgers.

Well thats just a few options that I think the Packers should look into. I am sure you all have some others that come to mind so let us know in the comments section below or back on the Facebook fanpage.

Go Pack Go!

Thanks,

Jeff

I agree with you! I wouldn’t take on Harvin at this stage of his career. There is always an issue with him.

As much as I would hate to see Cobb leave GB it would definitely cure any & all woes if we could pick up Harvin. Harvins probably the best option out there for us right now.

I think Brandon Marshal could be great in Green Bay with Rodgers & Co., but he definitely will HAVE to keep his attitude, and ego in check!

Cobb will be missed but I believe we have receivers in house that will pull up the slack as a receiver. Where the Pack will really miss Cobb is in his versatility on offense…lining up in the backfield, etc. McCarthy did this because of Cobb’s abilities and to free him up. As for another team…I don’t think he gets those chances.

We should not let Randall Cobb go we are talking about a guy who is only 24 yrs old this dude is only gonna get better over the length of his next contract he has so much more room to grow the talent alone sets his skill set apart from the rest give him a 5 yr 50 million 25 million in for sure money I bet he would sign and to all the others who are throwing out other wide outs as a replacement ain’t none of them Randall Cobb good!!! Harvin is over rated always hurt or complaining he is a headache literally Johnson is old not worth it maclin is OK the only one worth a look is Brandon Marshall he could catch 100 and go over a 1000 with Rodgers but Marshall has been traded to the new York jets for a draft pick so we better once again with Cobb

You are so right about Cobb i wonder why he wouldn’t take the same deal as Nelson.

He will only get better if he stays in GB if he goes to Jax or Oak he will not have a QB like Aaron and he will be the #1 receiver so getting double teamed and with the best corners on him like Nelson does now. Cobb will fade away elsewhere plain and simple he is not that good!

As a Packers fan I think we need to get our defense right since we let hawk. We need to go after some DB’S and a cheap WR in free agency

No we don’t! The man thinks he’s worth more than Jordy Nelson. His ego has taken over his brain. He’s not the only Packer to go into Free Agency this month. Ted needs to keep a lot of those other players too not just Cobb.
My personal thought is that he’s sick and tired of playing in the cold and that’s why he’s turning down the Packers offers.

Marshall went to Jets and was a 1000 yard receiver every year but his first and last years. Maclin isn’t going anywhere now that Philly has opened a lot of cap room with the McCoy trade. Welker will either remain on his team or retire due to concussions. Wayne was a shadow of his old self for the last 2 years, probably not an upgrade on what we already have.

There’s a lot of WR FAs, but I don’t see a slot receiver that screams “must have” for me, other than Cobb. Hopefully the Packers and Cobb are stuck on details, and not the money. He’s a special talent in the slot, kickoff/punt returner, and a backup QB. Would hate to lose him to another team.

Cobb has had only one great season. Jordy on the other hand has had more than one great season. Lots of players have dropped the ball and they are still with the Packers. It’s not the big deal you’re trying to make it out to be.

“with Aaron throwing him the ball instead of Cutler the man could easily be a 1000 yard receiver.”

    Uh?…..

    As a Bear:
    2012 – 1,508 yards
    2013 – 1,295 yards
2014 – 721 yards (Battled injury all season, went out week 14 with broken ribs and a punctured lung. Could have feasibly picked up another 279 yards if not injured.)

And then his time with Cutler as a Bronco:
2006- 309 yards (Rookie season, not a starter. Neither was Cutler)
    2007- 1,325 yards
    2008- 1,265 yards

Looks to me like Cutler has NO problem getting Marshall over 1000 yards. (I don’t even like Cutler or Marshall because they have crappy attitudes, but let’s give credit where credit is due.)

Cobb just needs to take the offer if he wants to be a top WR in this league, which he is in this offense. Anyone remember James Jones……he had a couple good seasons and left for Oakland! He was a shell of himself and is probably kicking his own ass for leaving. Left for more money!

Packers don’t need to work on the linebackers they already have solid players that are on the rise who were not getting time because hawk was in. They need big guys on the d line. They have the receivers already. Corners are a must. Williams is starting to be less productive. House and Hayward have been their best so far.

If WR Randall Cobb is willing to leave the BEST OFFENSIVE TEAM in the NFL with an MVP QB that is a Future Hall of Famer. Is that a smart move?? On another note- A WR is only as Good as the QB that is delivering the ball to him. Another note- Jordy Nelson is way more of a clutch WR than Randall Cobb and Cobb’s Agent thinks he is worth more, haha not yet. Another note- every WR that left the GB PACKERS to go for THE SHOW ME THE MONEY ATTITUDE has not put up the numbers they had when playing GREEN BAY. I’ve known Randall Cobb since high school football and if he thinks with his home grown roots where he was raised in Tennessee, he will stay where he is assured to make the hall of fame career in Green Bay and possibly the NFL. But that won’t happen if he leaves. Sorry Randall this is based on statistical facts.

give him the money, then tell him to give half of it to Aaron Rodgers, because without Aaron he wont catch 25 balls. just ask Greg Jennings!

Randall Cobb’s agent is looking for a big payday which you can’t fault him for looking out for #1. However, Cobb needs to realize he won’t have the luxury of Aaron Rogers surgical passing arm when he leaves GB and he won’t have a Jordy Nelson decoy to take the pressure off when he is running cross routes. Nelson is the reason he gets open on most plays! If he wants a Hall of Fame future he should stay with Green Bay.
