Most Memorable Favre Touchdown Pass

Brett Favre and Sterling SharpeThere have been a lot of Favre passes throughout his time with the Packers that could be considered “most memorable.” There are a ton of passes that had me on the edge of my seat or caused me to jump up in excitement.

However, there was one pass that, for me, was more memorable than the others.

The Packers trailed the Lions 24-21 with 2 minutes and 26 seconds left in the game. Favre scrambled to his left and threw back to his right to a wide open Sterling Sharpe in the endzone. The Packers advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time (in a non-strike season) since 1967.

It was this pass that solidified in my mind that the Packers had risen out of the doldrums and become a contender once again.

What about you? What was your most memorable Brett Favre play?

Antonio Freeman against Vikings. On ground, off back and side rolling into arms, gets up and runs it in to end the game.

This is my favorite of all time as well! Ball never touched the ground and the Vikings were at a loss. Trailing the whole game then boom!

My most memorable TD, I cannot even recall the specific game, but Madden was color commentator. Fabre threw an absolute bullet that threaded the needle between to closing defenders and almost came out the backside of Chmura. You had to wait for the replay and slo-mo to see how it was even possible the ball made it through. There couldn’t have been more than inches to spare and less than a millisecond later it closed . Madden said it best, only Favre could make that throw, only Favre would try to make that throw. That summed it all up for me there. There have been prettier plays, more impactful plays, but that one was why we loved to watch number 4 play. He could do that at any time, you didn’t dare look away.

I remember several throws like that Shayne. You’re right he could always pull on of those out of his bag of tricks. You often wondered how the ball got through that tight window and how it didn’t blow a hole right through the receiver.

Also a great catch. For a long time Brett only knew how to throw bullets. He really got scary good when he could also throw a touch pass.

My wife & I drove to Detroit for that game. After GB clinched the playoffs the prior week, I knew I had to go. It was my first ever away game. We were in that end zone when Favre threw that ball. I will never, ever forget that play, and the immediate stunned reaction of the Silverdome fans around us. A couple of Lions fans turned to me and just shook their heads as if they couldn’t believe what had just happened. We were literally 2 Packer fans surrounded by Lions fans, and you could just feel the whole place crumble. Anyone that ever went to a game at the Silverdome – I’ll never forget the massive wind blowing into our faces as we walked into the place — it was like that same wind just all at once rushed out of the Detroit fans. It was a magical play and in so many ways the play that launched the legend.
