This game was not pretty but it is a win nevertheless. Aaron Rodgers threw 2 INT’s and had a sack fumble for a turnover which is very uncharacteristic of him but I put the blame partially on the receivers, they were not getting separation throughout this game (with the exception of a few plays which resulted in a Ty Montgomery TD and a James Jones TD) and for the most part they looked lost. I am not a Jeff Janis or Jared Abbrederis groupie but I feel if the receivers are struggling then why not put these guys in to see if they can create a different look? Everyone keeps saying the Packers lost their deep threat when Jordy Nelson went down but they have Janis sitting on the bench who can stretch the field and Abby was said to have had two outstanding weeks in practice – so why not use them?
If you told me before the game Eddie Lacy would have 27 yards on 13 carries I would have laughed in your face but that’s exactly what he did, blame it on losing TJ Lang (knee) or the offensive line as a whole but whatever the reason it was a very poor showing from the star running back. James Starks didn’t fare much better with 17 yards on 5 carries.
Speaking of the injury to Lang it seems this year has had its share already. After getting Bulaga back after 4 games, losing Lang is a big loss. On defense they lost Nick Perry (shoulder) and Bj Raji (groin) this game which are tough losses if they are out for any length of time.
Special teams has been improving each game but the fake punt debacle needs to be worked on for future games.
Raves
The defense gets the game ball for this one, they played stellar ball and kept the game from getting out of hand, Clay Matthews tallied one and a half sacks this game but more impressive was the constant pressure he put on Foles throughout the game, but he was not the only one this was a team effort and they were flying to the ball, if they can keep this up for the season I am on board with a Super Bowl victory. How about the rookie Quinten Rollins getting his first pick six? It was a big play which put the Pack up 14-0 and was looking like a cake walk in the first quarter but give the Rams defense credit, they came to play as well and kept the offense in check for the most part. But Aaron came through when it counted even though it was not his best game 19-30, 241 yards and 2 TD’s he ended his streak this game by tossing not one but two INT’s with a sack fumble to boot. James Jones only had 2 receptions for 77 yards but one was a big play for a TD, Ty Montgomery had one also with his 4 receptions for 59 yards. The stats are not very impressive but the score is all that matters and a 24-10 victory is almost what I predicted before the game and I would have been spot on if the field goal Crosby made was not taken off the board for a R. Rodgers penalty!
Bottom line the Pack is 5-0 with another home game next week against the Chargers and if they can win this one (and I believe they will) then they go into the bye undefeated with time to let the injured players get better for a very tough match in Denver.
Okay I can go on forever about this game but tell Packer Nation your thoughts on the Facebook Fanpage or comment below.
