The old saying doesn’t always hold true. A Packers team that seemed to once again take their foot off the gas and fall apart both in the redzone and in the second half was in many ways the better team. This will likely be the most disappointing Super Bowl for the fact that our beloved Packers won’t be playing and the AFC representative is a team we had already beaten.
It is sad to me that Seattle had to rely on their punter, ex-Packer Jon Ryan, to throw a touchdown pass. I am sure Seahawks players and fans are satisfied with that kind of a win, but not Packers fans. As horrifying as it was to see our team not seal the deal when they had the game in hand…to the tune of one…just one first down, it is just downright pathetic to see a team that should be cleaning out their lockers take the Packers rightful spot in the Super Bowl.
We are disappointed, but not devastated. We are down, but we are not out. While this season did not end the way we wanted it to, we are still Packers fans and very soon we will once again bring the Vince Lombardi trophy home. Yes…we fell. And yes…we will get back up!
I complete our series of Immortal Inspiration with one final quote from Vince Lombardi. I choose this because it is both an indictment of those who did not do enough, who may have let themselves and their team-mates down, but it also speaks to the fact that we will never give up in our pursuit of perfection…even if it only breeds excellence. The sun never sets on Packernation, and we will never quit cheering on our team. There will be more young, untested players added to this team this year and they will know from the start that they are in the company of champions past, present, and future because this team will embody the words of the greatest coach of all time:
Go Pack!
if only I could post the picture of Green Bay Packer #76 Mike Daniels praying with the Seahawks after the game. I love my Packers. Thank you Mike for putting God first.
Love it
Being a Packers fan for 50 years I have to say we would of taken the win anyway we got it. Great game, next year…Go Pack Go. Hawks kill the Pats!!!
Putting God first one never loses.
I am with you. There is only one G above our beloved Packers G and that is the G of GOD
Great season Pack! Definitely not how anyone could imagine it ending, but we will rise again. Proud to wear my Packet jersey no matter what happened. Go Pack! Bring on the 2015 season. We’ll be back!
Hold your heads up guys! We all know you are the best team around. Things just didn’t go our way! See you next year!
“I am sure Seahawks players and fans are satisfied with that kind of a win, but not Packers fans.”
Are you kidding me? You’re telling me your fans would not be celebrating just as much as we are had your team overcome A. Awful play and B. A great opponent?
I’m supposed to feel bad about the fact that the punter threw a touchdown pass? An NFL roster has 53 players who under the rules are allowed to perform certain roles. All kinds of plays are filled with deception and their success depends on how much the other team gets fooled.
I understand you feeling bad about the loss, and I generally have lots of love for the Packers and their fans. But my Seahawks deserve to be in the Super Bowl. My guys did what it took to stay close enough to pull off an unlikely comeback, they eventually made the most of their opportunities, and they played all 60 minutes, and then some.
Amen brother. It seems that Mr. Augestine’s bias has hindered his ability to be logical.
As a packers fan living in England i have followed the pack for over 50 years followed the nfl on afn radio in the early years couldn’t believe what i was seeing on Sunday heart broken will always be a packers fan we will be back
I grew up in Seattle, so a longtime Seahawks fan, and last night, while commenting on the game to my (Kansan) girlfriend, I offered sympathy to Packers fans and, was surprised when she said “Do you think they would do the same if the situation was reversed?” The fact is, YES, I do. Packers fans are, as a rule, great people.
This was a bizarre, complicated, inexplicable and certainly not to be expected game. NEITHER team “deserved” to win, and by normal standards both deserved to lose as they played well under their established capabilities (particularly Seattle). FWIW, it was an epic game, with twists and turns that would have defied Dickens — e.g., when Lynch scored the first words out of my mouth to GF were, “Oh crap, he scored too soon!” It was that kind of game, and if the OT coin flip had gone the other way… Console yourself with the fact your team had a great year, the game wasn’t decided by the officials — not to nit-pick, but can you imagine if instead of Kearse making the winning catch they would instead have (correctly) called interference on the play? —and next year your guys will be even better. I’m sorry your team had to lose, but in the end only one could advance. Better that you lose to the champs than an inferior, so for now let’s agree on “Go Hawks” and look forward to the rematch next year.
As I listened to the post game interviews of our players, I realized what makes our Packers such an amazing team. Everyone of them took responsibility for their part in the outcome of the game. Their integrity remained intact even as they mourned the lost opportunity. They will close this door and open a new one next season having learned from this experience.
This was a weird article. The Lombardi quote is the Seahawks to a tee. “Winners never quit, and quitters never win.” That is why Seattle won. They didn’t quit when most would’ve thrown in the towel. And are you saying that GB has never done a trick play? Ridiculous. You also admit that GB didn’t seal the deal. That’s what winners and champions do. Seattle has been a team in the past that would let the foot off the gas frequently, but not now. They did what they had to do when they had to do it. That is why GB lost. Seattle did not play well most of the day but can you honestly say GB did either? I think not. In the end it’s who played an entire game, plus.
