“Ice Bowl” 2

bartBart Starr has had a rough year. Two strokes and a heart attack have made recovery slow. Not much has been said recently but the nearing of his 81st birthday in three days (Jan. 9th) inspired this post. First of all, “Get well soon!” from everybody here at GPN and all of Packernation! And secondly, “Happy birthday!” we hope your road to recovery, however long it may take, will end in complete recovery.

Packers fans last week saw Aaron Rodgers go down against the Lions with a calf injury and then fight back to win a critical game for this great team. During that game, Rodgers called his own number in a quarterback sneak on the one yardline and found the endzone for a score. Who does not recall Bart Starr in the Ice Bowl, sneaking into the endzone for the game-sealing score. Bart, your toughness carries on through the generations of Packers…what a great moment.

Sunday, the Packers play the Cowboys in the first post-season meeting at Lambeau since the famous Ice Bowl. How great would it be for the Packers to get this win just a few days after Bart’s birthday. And maybe next season, Packers fans will be treated to that spectacle of legends…Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers…all on the same field!

Happy Birthday Bart!

And go

Wishing you a very Happy, Healthy, and Blessed Birthday! I so well remember when my uncle built your home (Harry) and I felt so ‘proud’ to just be connected to you in this way! My parents were season ticket holders since pre-Lambeau Stadium days, and I am lucky enough to have them now! Go Pack! You and Cherry are a huge part of their success! God bless…

I thank you for the wonderful memories you gave us as being a dedicated, dignified, and loyal team player who adults and children could always look up to. May God be with you and Cherry always and especially have his hand on your shoulder while you are in recovery.

Our daughter shares your birthday on Jan. 9th; and although she’s only in her early 30s, we are grateful for you both. We’re praying for your health and we want to thank you for all the joy you’ve given us over the years you were a Packer in uniform, and for your contributions to the Green Bay area and all of Wisconsin since then. THANK YOU from cold, northern Wisconsin.

Happy Birthday, Bart! I hope you you get better soon. You’ve been in our thoughts and prayers over the last couple of months. My husband and I had the priviledge of meeting you after a team practice when you were the head coach of the Pack! We’ve never forgotten how nice you were to take time to talk to us and sign a few items for us.
